Biography

Professor Dongsheng Wen is the Chair in Petroleum Engineering in the School of Chemical and Process Engineering at the University of Leeds. He received his DPhil from the University of Oxford, and is the Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), Energy Institute (FEI), and Institute of Nanotechnology (FION), a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and a Chartered Scientist (CSci). He has published over 120 papers in peer-reviewed journals, which is well received in the community (i.e. total citation >3000, and current H-index-23). His research covers a wide spectrum of nanotechnology and engineering science, centered around engineered nanomaterials for energy and medical applications. Currently he is leading a research group in Nanotechnology for oil and gas, i.e., developing multifunctional nanomaterials with tailored properties for reservoir diagnosis, characterization, enhanced oil recovery, and contaminated oil remediation. Example research topics include multifunctional nanomaterials design and transport in porous media, interfacial and rheological properties of nano-dispersions under reservoir conditions; controlled delivery of surfactants for enhanced oil recovery; functional nanoparticles for enhanced oil recovery, and nanoparticle sensors (pressure, temperature, oil saturation, stress etc) for reservoir characterisation and diagnosis.
